January 30, 2016. Annual Membership Meeting The annual dinner meeting of the Friends of Aztalan State Park will be held on Saturday Jan. 30, 2016 at Hi-Way Harry's, 710 Glover Lane, Johnson Creek, between 5:30 and 8:00 PM. Dinner will be served at 6:00 followed by a business meeting at 6:45 PM that will include elections of board members and then a presentation by Wisconsin archaeologist Robert "Ernie" Boszhardt on the most recent archaeological excavations at Trempealeau, Wisconsin that have revealed a Mississippian colony from southern Illiniois that dates earlier than Aztalan. The Mississippians also built a large temple mound there -the only one known in Wisconsin outside of Aztalan. Mr. Boszhardt will discuss the implications of the discoveries with regard to our understanding of Aztalan itself. Non-members are welcome.
