Summer Solstice Celebration

This year's Solstice event is CANCELLED because rain will continue all day and evening. Sorry for the late notice, but ... weather, you know.

The annual Friends of Aztalan State Park summer solstice celebration marking the longest day of the year will be held on the evening of Thursday June 21 at Aztalan State Park.  Solar events were important to the ceremonial life of the people who lived at the ancient Native American town between AD. 1050 and 1250, and summer was the farming season. We will gather at the park shelter at the second parking lot between 6:00 and 7:00 PM where snacks and refreshments will be served. At 7:00, there will be a walking tour of the site highlighting very new archaeological discoveries that have provided exciting new information on Aztalan. Viewing of the summer solstice sunset (weather permitting) will take place at 8:35 PM  from the large southwest platform mound.

The program is free but a Wisconsin State Park sticker (either day or annual) is needed and can be purchased at the park. Donations towards the proposed new visitor's center at the park being planned by the Friends of Aztalan State Park will also be gladly accepted.   For more information contact Friends of Aztalan State Park Executive Director Bob Birmingham at (608) 516-3421 or Aztalan State Park is located on County Hwy. Q in Jefferson County, one mile east of Lake Mills. Information on other upcoming events at the park can be found on the Friends of Aztalan State Park website:
